There is a huge information gap between the restaurants that have excess food and the people who need food at night, especially student. The problem here is that even though the need of each of the parties suffices the other there is a vast communication gap between the two.
There were various design approaches I employed to solve this problem.
The user should have choice of food. In other words, its up to the user what kind of food he wants and this will encourage people to come back and use the system even more as they can get food of the choice of cuisine they need.
Entrust much of the control of the food in the hands of the restaurateur. This helps eradicate any middlemen required to store the food(Although eventually I decided to use other people traversing by a path as the deliverers of food, but still the restaurateur had the final say on how much waste food was there in his restaurant.)
Indication of waste minimization and money made. This aspect of the system will help customers be involved in the system and give them an idea of how responsible they have been both socially and economically.
I created 40 sketches of how to proceed with my idea of building this system. These sketches were quick and dirty, and helped me to warm my brain up for the process ahead.
Based on all the input I collected from my peers, I started to ideate and create a concept map. I first brainstormed again throughly before arriving at a robust concept map.
Based on the methods used thus far, I had established that there were three main players in the system: the Restaurateur, the Deliverer and the Customer. I formulated three scenarios based on these three different personas.
I quickly sketched out and made a paper prototype of my app. This helped me to rethink on certain features of the system that I had not thought of initially.
