This section of my portfolio is dedicated to the work I have done at the Information and Technology Services(ITS), University of Michigan. I have been a part of the UX team at the ITS for a good six months now and I am really satisfied with the impact that my designs and research are making on various sectors across the university. I have won many an accolade from various departments in the university. My work is primarily focused on different websites of University of Michigan and the Michigan Mobile App.
The directory was one section of the Michigan App that was not doing as per the expectations of the developers. I kick started this project by looking through the web analytics for this section of the app. I noted some key areas where users left the app. I also noted down the task completion rates. Thereafter I scheduled interviews and did a comparative analysis, took detailed notes and drafted findings and recommendations based on the notes. Finally based on these recommendations I redesigned the directory section of the app. One of the constraints of the project, was to design within the limitations of the then Kuali framework.
This was a concept project. University of Michigan for a long time has been lacking a one stop shop for students. My manager came to me and asked me to come up with a probable mobile app that would do the same. We brainstormed together and came up with a bunch of functionalities that such an app should cater to. Among them were library access, Ctools (academic website), financial account, campus maps/ room reservation and mail. I sketched out a few ideas and came up with the design that is given below.
I revamped the current Financial Aid website to give it a better information architecture and a consistent look with respect to the main University of Michigan website.
Currently the Parents website has a lot of links that make it cumbersome and tedious on the user to remember as to what part of the page he/ she is at and hence makes it difficult to navigate through the page. To sort this problem I brainstormed different solutions and came up with an idea to have a fixed drop-down navigation which would help the user to go to any part of the page really quickly. The UI for the website was also changed.
The office of Registrar’s calendar website is currently not responsive and cannot be read on the mobile phone. I was tasked to come up with a few designs for the mobile version of the website. I brainstormed a bit and also looked at calendar websites of universities and other organizations. I sketched and finally came up with the design given below.
